Computer Project in Tibetan Schools

There are nearly ninety Tibetan schools in exile, mostly in India and a few in Nepal and Bhutan. Computer Education in these schools is in varying stages of development. Some schools have made a sound start, but financial and infrastructure restraints have slowed efforts in a few other schools. There is an urgent need to quickly identify those schools where Computer Education is lacking, and give them whatever help it takes to start computer programs. Time is of the essence because every year many students may graduate from these schools (without computer education), who will quickly find out what a handicap it is to be without basic computer knowledge. The increasing use of the inter net as a source of information means that lack of computer skills not only deprive them of skills needed for communication and work, but perhaps the most convenient source of all information. Computer Education is imperative for our children to be truly comfortable in this modern age.
TCEF identified Dhondupling School in North India as being one such school. Established in the early sixties to cater to the basic education of the early Tibetan refugee settlers at Clement Town, this school is now a high school, and every year scores of children graduate from it. Thanks to the
Good Works Institute, Sun Valley, Idaho that funded the purchase of computers and the salary of a computer teacher, Computer Education will soon be introduced in this school. Over the years hundreds of students will benefit from this generous grant.
Our hope is for Computer Education and Internet access to all students of grade 6 and above. Please consider making a donation towards our Computer Project that will help us provide computer education in other Tibetan schools in need.
